Abrasives, dust, packaging and machines do not all belong in the same bin. Here you can see what goes where – and what we take back.
What goes where?
| What | Where |
|---|---|
| Used discs, mesh, sheets, non-woven abrasives | General waste |
| Sanding dust | General waste – old paint, wood preservatives, GRP: ask your recycling centre |
| Boxes, paper padding, delivery note | Paper recycling |
| Plastic bags, adhesive tape | Recycling bin / yellow bag |
| Leftover paint, filler, thinner | Hazardous waste collection |
| Old sander | Recycling centre – or back to us when you buy a new one |
| Batteries and rechargeable batteries | Retailer or collection point |
Waste electrical equipment
Electrical and electronic equipment – in our range, the sanders – must not be disposed of with household waste. This is indicated by the crossed-out wheeled bin symbol on the appliance, its packaging or the instructions. Old appliances contain valuable materials that can be reused, and components that have to be treated separately.
You have two options:
- Municipal collection point. Recycling centres accept old appliances from private households free of charge. Your local authority will tell you which one is responsible.
- Return to us. If you order a new appliance from us, we take back an old appliance of the same type free of charge. Before sending it, please drop us a short email at info@customwheel.de; we will give you the address and arrange shipping.
Before returning an appliance, please remove all batteries, rechargeable batteries and lamps that can be removed without destroying them, and dispose of them separately. You are responsible for deleting any personal data on an old appliance yourself.
Batteries and rechargeable batteries
Batteries and rechargeable batteries do not belong in household waste. They can be handed in free of charge at retailers and municipal collection points. Our range currently contains no batteries or rechargeable batteries and no appliances with a permanently built-in battery – should that change, it will be stated on the product.
Packaging
We pack using as few different materials as possible, so that everything can be disposed of without separating:
- Boxes, paper padding and the delivery note go in paper recycling.
- Plastic bags and adhesive tape go in the recycling bin or the yellow bag.
- Please flatten large boxes – it saves space in the bin and during collection.
Abrasives and sanding dust
Used sanding discs, mesh, strips, sheets and non-woven abrasives are general waste. Sanding dust also goes in general waste, not in the organic waste bin or paper recycling – even if it is pure wood dust, because it contains binders and abrasive grain particles.
Three cases need more care: dust from old paint may contain lead or chromates, and dust from wood preservatives and sanding residue from composites such as GRP and carbon may count as hazardous waste depending on the quantity. If in doubt, ask your recycling centre rather than putting it in the bin.
And a safety note: metal sanding dust and rags soaked in solvent can ignite spontaneously in a closed container. Do not collect them together, and do not leave the contents of a dust bag standing hot and open. How to keep the dust out of the air in the first place is explained in our guide: Sanding dust, extraction and masks.
Paint, filler and solvents
Leftover paint, primer surfacer, body filler, thinner and cleaner are hazardous waste and belong at the hazardous waste collection or the recycling centre – never down the drain. Small quantities of fully cured residue can go in general waste. Empty containers with no residue go in the recycling bin or scrap metal, depending on the material.
